Public presentations are scheduled in January on the school improvement plan/instructional support levy plan.

PV boys ranked 6th in 4A standings

Pleasant Valley's boys basketball team ranked sixth in last week's Des Moines Register 4A poll, just ahead of fellow MAC conference member Muscatine.


The Spartans, however, are expected to fall in the same rankings this week after a road loss to Burlington on Friday night (Jan. 12). The Spartans are now 9-1, following a win against Fort Madison on Saturday night (Jan. 13).


Fourth in last week's poll was Cedar Rapids Prairie, which handed Bettendorf its second loss of the season (Jan. 6). The Bulldogs recovered with wins against Clinton and Assumption and sport an overall 8-2 record.

Library gains from Doodle Day but state cuts grant

The Director informed the Board that the library has received the annual Open Access check.The check received is based on the previous year's transactions. It was noted that this year's check was $6,000 less than last year's even though the number of transactions were more than the previous year.

Board examines pros/cons of early retirement incentives

Superintendent Perdue provided an overview of the district's current early retirement policy and asked the Board to consider the following four options as they move forward with their discussion on this topic:
ï Should the district continue with the current early retirement incentive program?
ï Should the district simply provide an ongoing, annual retirement program which is non-incentive based?
ï Should the district develop a new incentive-based early retirement plan?
ï Should the district discontinue the early retirement program?

All-day kindergarten focus of special planning meeting

Based on responses from a parental survey, parents indicated 184 to 31 in favor the all-day kindergarten concept. But board members, after a special meeting to discussion the advantages and costs of going from the current half-day to full-day kindergarten, indicate they do not support implementation of full-day kindergarten district-wide.

Sledding into the sunset


With the record amount of snow accumulation this winter, many children (and adults) have been sledding in various parks. Palmer Hills Golf Course is one of the most popular places to be a kid again and have fun with the snow.
