BHS students reach out to community

Bettendorf High School's Student Council dreamed up a new assignment for it's student members - reach out to help various Quad City community organizations.

This project, entitled "Community Service Learning," splits the members of all four grades into separate groups.

The first task was to figure out what organization they were interested in helping, then make contacts, and determine what they could contribute to the local group.

The seniors have chosen to work with the Hearts and Hammers program during the group's April fix-up day.

The juniors have decided to get involved in a program for underprivileged children working through four different Davenport elementary schools.

The sophomores plan to work with the "Up With Families" program, assisting families with mentally disabled members.

The freshman will be going to the Gilda's Club on Valentine's Day and organizing a Valentine's bash for the children 12 and under.
