The football playoffs began with a repeat of the season opener between Bettendorf (9-0) and Pleasant Valley (7-2). While the Bulldogs handled the Spartans easily in September, the game Wednesday night (11/3) was a much tougher and closer contest. Pleasant Valley held a 6-0 lead until Bettendorf scored a touchdown in the final seconds of the second quarter. Leading 7-6 in the fourth, Bettendorf added a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Fick to Chris Ivory and a 20-yard TD run by halfback Tim Jackson to seal the win. Next up for Bettendorf is a rematch with Davenport Assumption Monday (11/8) at TouVelle Stadium. Assumption (8-2) defeated Muscatine in its playoff opener 38-3.
